The coding task was also executed well, with the code being functional and error-free. However, Mistral AI currently lacks the capability to generate images, and it apologized for this, offering guidance on image creation methods instead.

Then there was 01.AI, born in China, where big ideas come to life. The founders were seasoned pros—people who’d seen the inner workings of the US AI giants and knew where the cracks were. They weren’t interested in making another all-purpose, one-size-fits-all model. Instead, they focused on adaptability. They created AI that could be molded to fit specific needs, like a custom-tailored suit. Soon, their models were being used in places where precision and flexibility mattered more than sheer size. We tried to access the 01.AI model Wanzhi, but the whole tool and login screen are only in Chinese and are only accepting Chinese letters. It seems to still be limited to the Chinese market.

As the big players watched, these two startups didn’t just enter the game—they changed it. Mistral’s efficiency-first approach made sustainability cool in a space dominated by energy-hungry behemoths. It is fast and reliable and we can give it 4/5 in LMAI scale. 01.AI’s modular models showed that smaller, smarter, and more versatile could win over monolithic powerhouses. Its advantage is that it is big in the Chinese market. We could not get it so we will not give it a LMAI score. If someone from 01.AI reads this, we would love to test if you could tell us how.
