Hi fam!

Apparently, the solution to information overload was to invent AI...

...and then use it to create even more information. Excellent work, everyone. 😅

So this week, we're doing things a little differently. We're looking at how AI can help us filter the noise, communicate more clearly, and spend less time on things that don't deserve it—plus the latest stories from an AI world that, as usual, refuses to have a quiet week.

The future of AI feels Like Magic, and it’s here!

AI had another busy few days—and this time, the stories go well beyond new models and flashy updates.

From billion-dollar moves and questions about AI safety to surprising breakthroughs in science, AI is finding its way into increasingly unexpected places.

Here are the stories worth knowing. 👇

  • Hugging Face has reportedly been approached about a potential acquisition at a valuation of $13 billion or more. The company has become one of the central hubs of the open-source AI ecosystem, hosting models, datasets, and tools used by developers worldwide.

Why this matters: If Hugging Face were acquired, it wouldn't be just another big AI deal. One of the most important pieces of infrastructure behind open AI development could suddenly have a new owner.

  • A new study found that leading AI labs have published surprisingly little about what they would actually do if an advanced AI system tried to evade human control. Researchers specifically looked for concrete containment procedures—when access would be cut, who makes the decision and when a system would be shut down.

Why this matters: Companies spend enormous amounts of time testing whether models behave dangerously. But detecting a problem is only half the job. You also need a plan for what happens after the alarm goes off.

  • London startup Inherent, founded by former DeepMind researchers, says its AI research agent outperformed systems based on much larger frontier models from OpenAI and Anthropic at replicating scientific research.

Why this matters: Having the biggest underlying model may not always produce the best AI agent. Increasingly, how models are orchestrated, given tools and guided through a task can matter as much as raw model intelligence.

  • A mysterious model called Ox Alpha appeared on OpenRouter offering a one-million-token context window at no cost, and developers quickly started experimenting with it. There's one rather important catch: its provider hasn't been publicly identified, and prompts sent to the model may be retained.

Why this matters: Free and powerful sounds wonderful—until you don't know who is actually receiving your data. As mystery and stealth models become more common, privacy may need to become part of the model-selection checklist.

  • Researchers at UC San Diego used AI to identify patterns associated with enhancers, sections of DNA that help determine when and where genes are switched on. The work could improve scientists' understanding of how genetic regulation works and how disruptions contribute to disease.

Why this matters: This is a nice reminder that AI news isn't only ChatGPT, agents and billion-dollar acquisitions. Some of its most consequential applications may happen quietly inside scientific research.

The “Make It Hard to Misunderstand” Prompt

You know that email you read three times before sending because there is absolutely no possible way anyone could misunderstand it?

And then someone replies:

"So... what exactly do you need from me?"

Amazing.

Before sending an important email, proposal, instruction, brief, or even a Slack message, give it to AI and ask:

“Rewrite this to make it as difficult as possible to misunderstand. Keep the meaning and tone, but identify anything ambiguous, unclear, or open to interpretation. Make the action, owner, deadline, and expected outcome explicit.”

For example:

Before:
"Can you send me the updated presentation sometime tomorrow so we can review it before the meeting?"

Sounds perfectly reasonable.

Except... when tomorrow? Which version? Who is reviewing it? And before which meeting?

After:
"Please send me the updated client presentation by 12:00 tomorrow. Use the version from Monday as your starting point and include the revised pricing slides. I'll review it before our 3 PM client meeting."

Same message. Far fewer opportunities for chaos.

It's especially useful for delegating tasks, client emails, project briefs, deadlines, and instructions—basically anywhere where “But I thought you meant...” can cost you time.

Because sometimes AI doesn't need to make your writing smarter.

It just needs to make it harder for humans to get it wrong. 😄

Stop Reading Everything

We have access to more information than ever—and somehow that has resulted in more things we feel we should read.

AI can help, but not just by summarizing everything in sight.

Instead, give it your articles, reports, or PDFs, explain what you're actually looking for, and ask it to sort them into READ, SKIM, and SKIP. It can flag repetitive sources, point you toward the sections that matter, and help you decide what deserves your attention in the first place.

Because sometimes the smartest way to read faster is simple:

From the Archive: Perplexity as an AI Research Assistant

Back in 2024, we wrote about Perplexity and a new way of researching with AI.

At the time, the exciting part was simple: instead of digging through endless Google results, AI could search, answer your question, and point you directly to the sources.

Two years later, that feels almost normal.

What's changed is the problem. We can find information faster than ever—now we need better ways to decide what's actually worth our attention.

It's interesting to look back at the moment when AI-powered research still felt genuinely new.
