The AI Tools That Could Have Done More: Our Least Favorites in the AI Landscape 😨🤥
Hey everyone,
We've spent countless hours testing, prodding, and dissecting bunch of AI tools to help you navigate this wild frontier. We told you who are the game winners you should pay attention to, but let's be real—not every tool is a winner. Some left us scratching our heads, others had us downright frustrated. Some left us amazed at how useless they are!
Today, we're pulling back the curtain on the AI tools that didn't make the cut. Consider this the "avoid if possible" list. Or “Work in Progress” in nicer terms. Let's dive into the underwhelming side of AI.
1. Wordtune: Lost in Translation
We had high hopes for Wordtune, an AI writing assistant that promises to enhance your prose. Featured in Newsletter #20, we gave it a 1 out of 5.
What went wrong: While Wordtune aims to refine your writing, we found its suggestions to be generic and not particularly helpful. It often echoed what general AI tools like ChatGPT already offer—for free. It also offers to make your writing more human, which you can just do by yourself for FREE.
The kicker: With limited features on the free plan and underwhelming performance, it didn't justify the upgrade to the paid version.
2. Kaiber: Beauty That's Only Skin Deep
In Newsletter #29, we explored Kaiber.ai, a tool for creating AI-generated videos. It scored a 2.5 out of 5.
Our experience: Sure, it produces some “visually appealing” animations, but there's a catch. The trial version is extremely limited, making it hard to fully assess its capabilities without committing financially.
Why it fell short: We expected more innovation and user-friendliness, especially in the trial phase. It felt like buying a car without being allowed to test drive it first.
3. PimEyes: A Pricey Privacy Puzzle
We delved into PimEyes in Newsletter #5, intrigued by its facial recognition capabilities. It ended up with a 2 out of 5.
The concern: PimEyes lets you search for images of faces across the internet—a double-edged sword. While it can help you monitor your online presence, it also raises significant privacy issues.
Sticker shock: The pricing plans are steep, starting at $36.99 per month, which seems excessive for what it offers.
4. Slides AI: A Slide Backward
In our quest for the perfect presentation tool, we tested Slides AI, featured in Newsletter #31, and awarded it a 3.5 out of 5.
The good: It allows for quick generation of presentations from text, and the pricing is affordable.
The bad: The templates are basic, and customization options are limited. In a market with heavyweights like Beautiful AI and Gamma App, Slides AI feels like a step behind. But we still recommend checking it out for low budget needs.
5. Decktopus: Limited by Limitations
Also in Newsletter #31, we tried out Decktopus, hoping it would revolutionize our presentation game. It received a 3 out of 5.
First impressions: It offers one-click customization and interactive elements.
The letdown: The free version is so limited that it's hard to evaluate its true potential. Key features are locked behind a paywall, and even then, it doesn't outshine competitors.
6. Lovo.ai: So Close, Yet So Far
In Newsletter #31, Lovo.ai caught our eye as a voice-over tool with high-quality outputs. We rated it 3.5 out of 5.
The upside: Exceptional voice quality and a user-friendly platform.
The downside: The inability to download the final product—voice-over, video, and subtitles—on the free plan was a deal-breaker. It hampers usability and forces you into a paid plan prematurely.
7. Pictory.ai: Stock Image Stagnation
Featured in Newsletter #22, Pictory.ai promises to turn text into engaging videos. Sounds great, right?
The snag: While the tool itself is robust, sourcing stock images and footage without incurring additional costs is a challenge.
Our take: Unless you're ready to invest in stock media subscriptions, you might find yourself limited in creating the videos you envisioned.
8. Remodel AI: A Fixer-Upper
In Newsletter #23, we explored Remodel AI, an app aimed at helping you visualize home renovations.
The issue: While the concept is exciting, the execution leaves much to be desired. The renderings often lacked realism, and the app struggled with more complex designs. Results are often unrealistic.
Notable mention: At $12.99 per month, we expected a more polished product.
9. Spin Rewriter: Spinning in Circles
We took Spin Rewriter for a spin in Newsletter #19, curious about its content rewriting capabilities.
Our experience: The rewritten content often felt unnatural and required significant editing. It didn't save us time—in fact, it added to it. Slapped with the price, we were left speechless.
Worth noting: With pricing at $47 per month, we didn't see the value proposition.
10. Presentations AI: Falling Flat
Another presentation tool that didn't wow us was Presentations AI, covered in Newsletter #31 and given a 2.5 out of 5.
The letdown: Despite its promise of AI-generated slides, the designs were uninspiring, and the platform lacked advanced features.
Bottom line: In a space crowded with superior options, this one failed to stand out.
